Site Visits (15 June 2010, afternoon)

Delegates can go on site visits scheduled in the afternoon of 15 June where they can view and have hands-on experience on some of the infocomm projects developed for the Singapore Government. Site visit tracks will include separate tracks that explore Singapore’s development in e-Government innovations, education and healthcare. Participants can choose from any one of these tracks.

For the convenience of delegates, designated pick-up and drop-off points for each site will be arranged. Due to limited capacity, registration will be on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Examples of the site visits include:

e-Government Innovation: SOEasy Showcase
The Singapore Government’s Standard ICT Operating Environment, or SOEasy, aims to consolidate infocomm services such as desktop, messaging and network into a single environment. The SOEasy Showcase provides visitors with a first-hand experience of how the SOEasy programme can enhance communications, collaboration and productivity for Singapore’s public officers. It also provides a platform to demonstrate innovative emerging technologies and products before they are introduced into the SOEasy programme.

Education: Nanyang Polytechnic Centre for IT Innovation
Nanyang Polytechnic’s School of Information Technology (SIT) offers six innovation-oriented IT diploma courses to fulfil the diverse aspirations of the young generation and meet the growing industry demand of IT professionals. SIT constantly collaborates with the industry in cutting-edge technology projects, so as to provide relevance and a firm foundation for its students. As part of its capabilities development programme, the Polytechnic established the Centre for IT Innovation (CITI) as a launch pad for major industry collaborations and engages in applied R&D in core competencies such as Information Security, Service-Oriented Architecture, Web Services, Grid Computing, Business Rule Solutions, Enterprise Technology, Next Generation Network, and Wireless and Mobile Computing. CITI showcases real life projects undertaken by the staff and students, and demonstrates how IT is used in various perspectives to create innovation and overcome real-world problems.

Healthcare: KK Women's and Children's Hospital Medication Management System
KK Women's and Children's Hospital has evolved over the decades, since its founding in 1858, into a regional leader in Obstetrics, Gynaecology, Paediatrics and Neonatology. The 830-bed hospital is a referral centre providing tertiary services to handle high-risk conditions in women and children. A closed loop medication process for inpatients is being implemented to automate medication management. It will cover the electronic medication orders by doctors, on-line verification by pharmacists on doctors' orders before dispensing, integration to the robotic packing and picking of drugs based on the verified orders to electronic administration by nurses at the patients’ bed side with barcode technology. This automation aims to reduce medication errors, enhance patient safety and improve operational efficiency.
